You may remember a while ago I blogged about preparing to go to England with Mommy. If you didn’t read that post, you can check it out here. I had my ISO microchip and rabies vaccine done about a month ago. This week I had two more appointments to get ready for travel. One was to get my paperwork done and get a wellness check. It took a while, but Mommy says my dogtor was great! I don’t know about all that. Last time I got poked with needles, so if “great” means I didn’t have to get shots this time, then I guess you can say she was great. My dogtor had to do a wellness check which means she just looked at my eyes and ears. She looked at my teefers, which I just had cleaned by the way. She listened to my heart. Checked my weight and said I looked nice and healthy. She also had to scan my microchip again.

The paperwork packet took about 30 minutes. My dogtor was very careful to make sure everything was done properly. Before we left, she gave Mommy the address for the USDA offices in Gainesville. They would have to check over my paperwork and sign off on it in a 10-day window before my trip. That made Mommy nervous, but apparently, they do it all the time. Mommy made copies of everything for herself, and then ran to the post office. She sent out my paperwork in a one day, required signature packet. She sent it out on a Tuesday and got it back Thursday! That was fast for snail mail!
The last thing on the list was getting wormed. I am still offended about this, but I cannot go with Mommy without getting wormed. This has to be done so that I arrive at the UK customs office no later than 5 days after getting wormed. That was a super quick in and out vet visit. After all of these vet visits, Mommy better take me to a lot of yappy hours and give me lots of chicken!

After all of the preparation, Mommy says she only recommends taking a pet to England if you are going to be there for an extended amount of time like she is. Otherwise, it is a very expensive and time-consuming process. There are companies you can pay that will take care of the whole ordeal for you, but your pet will have to travel in cargo or in a special airplane for animals. Mommy doesn’t trust anyone to do this. She says I am precious cargo. You do need to budget about $1500 - $2000 to get your pet to the UK.
I’ll blog each leg of my trip so you can travel with me and check out the process. Paws crossed that everything goes smoothly!
Luvs and Lix,
Sophia
