I went on a special visit today! Back in January, Mommy noticed I was walking like a robot in my hind end. I also groan when I’m trying to sleep and I dip my body in anticipation when Mommy goes to pet me. I’ve had a couple of laser treatments at my dogtor and started on some anti-inflammatories, but so far there has not been a change. Mommy decided to research and find a specialist, so today we drove an hour to North Dallas to Advanced Care Veterinary Services. Dr. Stramel knows all about Dachshunds and even partners with one of the Dallas Dachshund rescues! He felt down my back and hiney. He told Mommy I most likely have a pinched nerve. He could feel in my middle back and lower back that there were issues. He also said that my luxating patella’s were pretty bad and I am most likely walking like a robot because it feels better to not bend my knees.
For treatment, I had acupuncture and laser treatment at the same time! I was nervous, but not quite as nervous as I get at the regular dogtor. They gave me a fluffy mat to sit on, played spa music for me, and even offered me peanut butter ice-cream! Mommy said she was jealous and she wishes she could have a relaxing spa treatment too. Instead, she started going on and on about selling her organs on the black market to pay for me to live a pain free life. That’s how much she loves me!
We are going to try several more treatments and hopefully they work! I am usually nervous in the car, but I conked out on the drive home. When we got home, I was so worn out that I barely made it to the couch before I passed out. LOL! Paws crossed that these treatments help.
